To promote a Sense of Community within Kindergartens/Centres

Points to note

Disco/Sparkle Dance etc
*   Discuss with Head Teacher and arrange a suitable date.
*   Organise with Head Teacher who is responsible for organising what.

Things to organise:

*   Date.
*   Venue.
*   What food/drinks.
*   Who to invite.
*   Music/entertainment - who will provide.
*   Making invitations
*   Timing.
*   Budget for the event.
*   Who responsible for what.
*   Set up and clean up.


Movie Night at Kindergarten
Same as above
*   Make sure movie isn't too long ans appropriate for age of children.
*   Will older siblings be invited and how will they be catered for?

Guest Speakers
*   Decide on a suitable guest speaker.
*   Set a date.
*   Organise with teachers who will organise what:
    *   Food and drink to be served.
    *   Timing - set up and clean up.
*   Possible speaker and/or topics include:
    *   Senior Education Advisory about areas of educational practice.
    *   Transition to school (New Entrant Teachers, Staff or SEA)
    *Sarah Langi - Nelson Environment Centre on Zero Waste management and how to reduce food costs in the household, worm farms, composting etc.
    *   Budgeting advice/tips - Nelson Budgeting service.

Matariki
Celebration of the Maori New Year (June/July) dates change annually.
*   Discuss with Head Teacher if anything is planned.
*   Find appropriate dates and start planning.
*   Inform parents.
*   Children can be involved by making something for the event.
*   Could be time for families to come together and share a meal or join in other community events being held.

Blokes and Kids Party/Night.
Fathers Event


Celebrating Festive Occasions
Christmas parties, Easter Hunts, Fathers and Mothers Day

Training Sessions
*   First Aid courses.
*   Cooking sessions.

Model Trains

These social events provide a good opportunity for someone (really better being a parent) to speak to parents about the FLG briefly. Some of the things to say could include:

*   What the FLG role is.
*   How parents can be involved.
*   What you personally have got out of being a member.
*   Who to contact if interested.
